Antioxidants Help Prevent the Damage from Oxidation to the Body That Could Cause Stress and Cancer

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are a type of natural chemical. They work by inhibiting oxidation, a process that creates free radicals. These can damage cells in organisms. Antioxidants can also prevent the oxidation of other materials, such as DNA, which can cause cancer. These molecules are essential for good health, and there are several different kinds of antioxidants, including vitamin C and vitamin E.

Phenomenal compounds have two types: natural and synthetic. Natural antioxidants, which are found in plants, are more effective than synthetic counterparts. Those with multiple hydroxyl groups are known as primary antioxidants. They also can contribute to the formation of relatively unreactive phenoxyl radicals. These synthetic forms of antioxidants are widely used in food as preservatives. Natural phenolic compounds are also effective antioxidants, however, their efficiency is often lower.

Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, oranges, and red peppers. It promotes heart and prostate health, and is also found in Brussels sprouts, broccoli, spinach, and lettuce. Antioxidants in these foods help prevent some types of cancer, such as leukemia. Vitamin A is found in meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Various types of phytochemicals, which act as antioxidants, have been shown to reduce inflammation.

Free radicals are a byproduct of normal metabolism. Exposure to UV rays, sun exposure, and environmental pollutants can all contribute to the formation of free radicals. This type of oxidative stress causes damage to healthy cells. It is thought to play a role in various diseases, and is also associated with premature aging. Antioxidants act as bodyguards, protecting healthy cells from oxidative stress and enhancing general health.

Free radicals damage DNA and other important molecules in the body. When they multiply, these free radicals can damage cells and cause their death. Antioxidants prevent these damages by stabilizing the free radical. The antioxidants help prevent the damage from oxidation, and they help maintain a proper balance between free radicals and antioxidants. Without a healthy balance between free radicals and antioxidants, the body is susceptible to oxidative stress and cancer. In February 2022, Florida Food Products (FFP) launched a novel plant-based antioxidant, VegStable Fresh, in the International Production & Process Expo (IPPE) in Georgia.
