Antibody-Drug Conjugates, In Simple Terms, Provide "Deactivated" Cytotoxins To Cancer Cells

Antibody drug conjugates are highly targeted biopharmaceutical therapies that combine monoclonal antibodies specific for surface antigens found on specific tumour cells with extremely potent anticancer chemicals coupled by chemical linkers. Antibody-drug conjugates, in simple terms, provide "deactivated" cytotoxins to cancer cells. Internalization allows the cytotoxin to restore its full cancer-killing cytotoxic activity inside the tumour cell. As a result, cell death is hastened. There are thousands of cellular poisons available, many of which are obtained from natural sources or chemically produced, but only a few are acceptable for use in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

Antibody-Drug Conjugates attach biodegradable, stable linkers to monoclonal antibodies to deliver very effective cytotoxic anticancer drugs to cancer cells and distinguish between cancer and normal tissue. Cleavable or non-cleavable linkers are available.Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) are a novel type of highly potent biological therapies that are made by connecting a small molecule anticancer drug or another therapeutic agent to an antibody using a permanent or labile linker. The antibody is directed against a specific antigen found only on target cells.

Targeted immunotherapy uses antibody drug conjugates (ADCs). They are constructed up of three parts: a monoclonal antibody (mAb), a cytotoxic payload generated from a chemotherapeutic medication, and a chemical linker that connects them. The process of covalently connecting pharmaceuticals or prodrugs to various natural or manufactured molecular carriers for specialised uses, such as polymers, polypeptides or proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, is referred to as conjugation. ADCs, or antibody-drug conjugates, are a type of biopharmaceutical medicine that is used as a targeted cancer treatment. ADCs, unlike chemotherapy, are designed to specifically target and destroy tumour cells while leaving healthy cells alone.
