Adipic Acids Are Made Commercially By Combining Cyclohexanone And Cyclohexanol

Adipic Acids

Organic molecules having the chemical formula (CH2)4(COOH)2 are known as Adipic Acid or hexanedioic acid. Adipic acids are made commercially by combining cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol. Adipic acids of high purity are utilised in the production of polyurethane. These are commonly used in household furnishings including bedding foam, furniture, and carpet underlays. These are commonly utilised in cushioning materials to improve the comfort and durability of furniture.

Increased use of Adipic Acid in various end-use sectors, such as paints & coatings, vehicles, textiles, industrial appliances, consumer goods, electrical & electronics, wires & cables, and food & packaging, is likely to drive market expansion over the forecast period (2017-2025). The primary challenge for market expansion during the forecast period is expected to be raw material price fluctuations along with high manufacturing costs of synthetic based adipic acid. Because of the dangerous CO2 and toxic waste produced by adipic acid manufacturing units using petroleum-based raw materials, the industry has been forced to shift its focus from synthetic to bio-based adipic acid.

As a result, demand for paints and coatings, as well as wires and cables, increases. Changing lifestyles and rising disposable income are driving up demand for convenience foods, which is driving up demand for nylon 6,6 resin used in food packaging.
