Non-invasive blood pressure monitors, or non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems use a double finger cuff that is comfortable for the subject to wear and easy to place on the hand. The monitor displays values for mean blood pressure, diastolic, systolic, and heart rate. Non-invasive blood pressure monitors provide either intermittent or continuous readings. Values are then obtained either manually or automatically. Statistically, there was no difference between invasive and noninvasive monitors, but the results could not be applied clinically.

Non-invasive Blood Pressure Monitors are widely used in intensive care units, operating room, emergency departments, surgical recovery rooms, and other critical care areas for continuous or frequent measurement of blood pressure (BP), as it is necessary to check BP during critical conditions of patient, which plays an important role in diagnosis. Moreover, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitors are used to estimate cardiovascular risk, screen hypertension, check vital signs, and diagnose, manage, and treat acute/chronic medical conditions.

Thus, with the increasing prevalence of aforementioned diseases, the demand for both invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitors is also increasing. For example, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Around 655,000 people in the U.S. die from heart disease each year; that is one in every four deaths. Moreover, non-invasive blood pressure monitors are simpler and quicker compared to invasive blood pressure monitors.

Sphygmomanometer and auscultation are the most popular non-invasive techniques, and are most often used for routine checkup. But non-invasive BP monitors tend to be somewhat less accurate and show little systematic difference in numerical results. However, it is important to get an accurate blood pressure reading to determine the risk of heart disease and stroke. Blood pressure monitoring is important in evaluating general health and most diseases and conditions. Thus, there is an increasing demand for blood pressure monitors worldwide.
