Elderly and Disabled Assistive Devices help senescent and blind people to move in their surroundings without any assistance from caregivers

Elderly and Disabled Assistive Devices

Elderly and Disabled Assistive Devices are a relatively new term for rehabilitative, technologically assistive and integrative devices for the older population or those with disabilities. The older generation has come to rely on their independence for many things: cooking, bathing, getting dressed, and many other daily tasks. However, people over 60 often find themselves trapped in a very complex and sometimes stressful set of circumstances that they can no longer control. Many times, people are at home alone or with a family member as they are not capable of taking care of themselves. This is where assistive technologies come in.

Designers consider five forces during the development of any Elderly and Disabled Assistive Devices: safety, accessibility, safety and functionality. The safety of the user is paramount. For instance, in October 2021, the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) launched Elderly and Disabled Assistive Devices such as text-to-speech electronic magnifiers for its visually impaired patients.
