The Popularity of Still Wine Has Increased In the Millennial Population of Asia Pacific

Still Wine

Still Wine is a type of table wine that is absent of any carbon dioxide (CO2) which makes them still, not bubbly, sparkling or fizzy. Wines may be classified by vinification methods. These include classifications such as sparkling, red wine, white wine, still or semi-sparkling, fortified and dessert wines. Grapes are widely used as raw material for still wine manufacturing. Still wine manufacturing includes bottle aging, bottling, maturation, fermentation, maceration and pressing, crushing, and sorting of raw material, among others. Majority of wines made today are still wines that contain approximately 8 to 15% alcohol.

The demand for Still Wine has increased over the years, owing to the increasing popularity of alcoholic beverages in the millennial population (above the legal drinking age), especially in Asia Pacific (APAC). For example, in February 2020, Sula Vineyards launched the country’s (India) first canned wine, keeping in with the spirit of convenience trending high among India’s millennials. The Indian winemaker, which holds 60% of the market share, has introduced its eight-year-old brand, Dia Sparkler, to meet the increasing demand.

Still Wine are named after the region in which they are produced and lack aeration properties. In every category, there are thousands of different wine varieties and various wine styles. There are several varieties of white wines such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Chianti. Red wines range from fruity to spicy and are wine produced with black grapes. Some of the popular red wine varietals are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Grenache. Some red wines include Merlot from Australia, Zinfandel from California, and Australian Merlot from New Zealand.

Drinking still wine, such as sparkling wine, isn't only good for the heart and skin, it can also help improve spatial awareness, attention span, memory, and overall brain health. According to the American Heart Society, although moderate consumption of red wine may have health benefits, excessive consumption can be detrimental to overall health.
