Demand for Isoprene Monomer Has Increased Due To Increasing Demand for Natural or Synthetic Rubber

Isoprene is a monomer found in natural rubber and is also a common structure in a wide variety of other natural compounds, collectively called terpenoids. Isoprene Monomer is widely used in the production of polyisoprene (synthetic rubber). It is also used to manufacture various copolymers, such as isobutylene, butadiene, styrene, and others. Moreover, Isoprene Monomer is used in the production of medical equipment, sports equipment, conveyer belt, electric wire and cable, etc. Thus, there is an increasing demand for isoprene, worldwide.

Furthermore, over the years, demand for Isoprene Monomer has increased due to the increasing demand for natural or synthetic rubber worldwide. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC World), in 2019, the top importers of synthetic rubber were China (US$ 6.42 billion), Germany (US$ 1.21 billion), United States (US$ 1.51 billion), Thailand (US$ 1.04 billion), and Malaysia (US$ 1.19 billion). Synthetic rubber can be used in conveyor belts, tires, clutches, engine bearings, industrial goods, and seals for drinking water.

Many methods have been developed for the production of synthetic rubber and other polymers. Isoprene is the most important building block for terpenoids, steroids, lipids, and a wide variety of natural products, including latex, the raw material for natural rubber. Isoprene is a colorless, volatile liquid hydrocarbon obtained in processing petroleum or coal tar and used as a chemical raw material. Isoprenoids, or terpenoids, play an important role in the physiological processes of plants and animals. They also have a number of commercial uses.

Isoprene is mainly produced by plants and animals and its polymers are most commonly found in natural rubber known as polyisoprene. Isoprene Monomer is not only a popular ingredient in personal care products but also widely used in industrial and scientific production. Isoprene, either alone or in combination with other compounds, is used to make polymeric materials with properties dependent upon the proportions of the ingredients as well as initiator (substance that starts the polymerizing reaction) employed.
