As a result, they are not a cost-effective solution for small and mid-sized substations.

The emergence of advanced communication technologies has made it possible for system administrators to poll more data points. Moreover, nonoperational data from the substation can be processed in various ways and analyzed to provide greater insight into the overall health of the system. This is helpful for other applications, including maintenance on-road. A substation monitoring system also helps the control center avoid costly mistakes and improve fleet insight.
