OSS/BSS Software Tools Are Widely Adopted In Various Industries for Managing Networks As Well As Business Activities

OSS/BSS

OSS/BSS (Operation support systems/ Business support system) are software tools used to manage networks and business activities. An OSS/BSS system is software that supports all the back-office activities of an organization. Traditionally, these systems are used by operations, architects, and network planners, however, these days, they are also used by product managers, senior staff, and more. They help with planning, trouble-ticketing, and inventory management.

OSS applications help network operators provide services to a large number of users. They support a company's infrastructure by monitoring and recording usage data. BSS applications are used to monitor and respond to customer requests, primarily through the telephone network. They are also used to provide information and alerts to users.

OSS helps businesses optimize their processes and deliver a better customer experience. It also facilitates efficient network operations. These systems typically consist of tens or hundreds of applications that support different aspects of an enterprise. The OSS ecosystem supports commercial, revenue, customer relationship, and network operations. Moreover, it enables organizations to leverage their existing investments and build new ones.

BSS is also known as "basic service area" (BSA). Compared to the traditional WiFi network, a BSS is not limited to a single AP. It can contain many clients, devices, and stations. These devices are connected to each other via a LAN switch. BSS systems typically support short-range wireless communication. The BSS section of a program's code contains both arithmetic and pointer data. This section is allocated memory by the program loader. It includes all variables that are uninitialized. These variables are then reduced in size to fit into the BSS. In a typical layout, a program may include text and various data in the stack and heap sections.

OSS/BSS systems are also used to help manage a company's site portfolio. They provide the network operator with operational data, such as network availability and performance.  While BSS and OSS are very different systems, both have the same purpose: to streamline and improve the processes of telecommunications companies. They are designed to help telecom companies provide better services and technical support. In September 2021, CodeSee, a new startup introduced OSS Port, which is an open source project that is developed for helping disparate open source team to develop understanding of the entire code base.
