Smart Elevator Automation System, also known as smart elevators or automated elevators, use artificial intelligence (AI) to provide vertical transportation of passengers and commodities. The system is widely used in hospitals, hotels, sports facilities, offices, and residences. Smart elevators are designed to replace the simple act of traveling between floors. Instead of pushing a button to go up or down, passengers first select the floor they want. Then they are directed to the elevator that will take them to their destination with the fewest number of stops. They are used in both mid-rise and high-rise buildings. The electronic motors eliminate the occupants' weight by using the counterweight system.

Smart Elevator Automation System operates without pressing the floor button. When a passenger enters and/or leaves the elevator, door sensors detect when passengers enter or leave. After the doors are closed, the elevator will run automatically, then stop at each floor. The system guides the lift in what order to stop at floors, when to close and open the door. Over the last decade, advances in Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) have changed elevators and escalators beyond their mechanical function of getting people travel up high-rise buildings with speed and comfort. Smart elevators have become more intelligent, connecting to cloud where the data they collect are analyzed and stored.

Depending on the type of smart elevator automation system used, doors may be single and/or double-cascade. They may be equipped with sensors to detect objects that may enter or exit the cab. In some cases, automated elevators are equipped with special alarm buttons to alert users of an emergency. The technology that enables smart elevators to operate innately is improving the overall experience of commuting. By collecting and analyzing ride characteristics, this new technology can help elevator operators make better operational decisions. The advantages of smart elevators are clear, such as they help improve customer's experience and reduce overall traveling time, as well as help save energy.

As smart elevator system utilizes automation, it reduces the waiting time and increases traffic management efficiency in residential, commercial, and other buildings. As the need for higher security, better controllability, ease of access and security has increased worldwide, it has given the paramount market position to smart devices and smart elevator system is one of them. Thus, the popularity of smart elevator automation system is increasing worldwide.
