An Application Programming Interface (API) is a computer interface that specifies how a group of software intermediaries communicate. Developers may use the Telecom API to construct apps that interact with various devices on a single network. Typically, a telecom provider would give APIs for SMS, MMS, location, voice, and payment, allowing the developer to incorporate the appropriate API into their application. The developer may be charged based on the number of APIs used in the application by the telecom provider. By handling the rising number of users in a network, the Telecom API increases the scalability and flexibility of an application.

According to Coherent Market Insights, The global Telecom API Market was accounted for US$ 194.2 Bn in terms of value in 2019 and is expected to grow at CAGR of 23.6% for the period 2020-2027.

In addition, 4G LTE offers voice over LTE (VoLTE), which is based on IP multimedia technologies and allows for high-clarity voice. For a given telecom tower, 4G LTE removes the need for separate voice and data networks. VoLTE may be used with RCS and video calls over LTE, allowing users to send MMS, chat, share files, and transfer videos.

The telecom API is used to construct apps that are interoperable with numerous devices on a single network. Customer Service Points (CSPs) may use the telecom APIs to add services like real-time communications, messaging, payment choices, and more. Several nations, including India and Spain, have declared a state of emergency owing of the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies are having meetings on online platforms as a result of this, and investment on IT infrastructure has surged as a result of government laws and regulations. For example, in July 2020, India's Department of Communications ordered IT businesses to allow their staff to work from home until December 31, 2020.
