Although the effects of phosphatidylserine have not been proven yet, it is believed that it may improve mood in some people. Studies have indicated that it may help with ADHD symptoms and mood regulation. For instance, in June 2022, LUCID partnered with JT, a major pharmaceutical firm in Japan, to develop a prescription-based treatment for Alzheimer’s disease using phosphatidylserine supplements.

The average intake of phosphatidylserine in a human being ranges from 75 to 184 mg per day. Studies on phosphatidylserine have varied in dosage, ranging from as low as 80 mg to as high as 600 mg a day. The lower end of the recommended range is sufficient to augment dietary intake.

While Phosphatidylserine supplements are a good source of this amino acid, it is hard to absorb through the gastrointestinal tract. Most of the supplements are made from cow brain cells, but plant-based Phosphatidylserine may have some health benefits. However, it is important to note that soy lecithin is an ingredient in phosphatidylserine supplements. Some companies use sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin.

While research is needed to determine the safety of phosphatidylserine, it has been found to have no significant adverse effects in infants and children. However, it should be noted that phosphatidylserine supplements are not recommended for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Additionally, phosphatidylserine supplements can interfere with other medications.

Since phosphatidylserine has an anti-clotting effect, it should not be taken by people with blood-clotting issues. It is also important to remember that phosphatidylserine supplements should not be used within two weeks of surgery. People with blood-clotting problems should talk to their doctors before taking phosphatidylserine supplements, as the ingredients of these products may differ from those in the original formulation.

In addition to taking phosphatidylserine supplements, individuals can eat organ meats. Organ meats contain relatively high amounts of this amino acid. In addition, organ meats are also excellent sources of protein, several B vitamins, iron, and copper. Additionally, they are much easier on the budget than muscle meats. For these reasons, organ meats may be a healthy choice for anyone who suffers from memory loss.
