Metallocene LLDPE is a High Performance Polymer Used for Packaging Applications

Metallocene LLDPE

Metallocene LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) is thermoplastic material manufactured using metallocene catalyst. It has exceptional optical properties and increased puncture strength and impact compared to other metallocene resins such as metallocene high pressure low density polyethylene. Polyethylene produced using a metallocene can be used as a very thin film which has excellent optical properties and sealing performance, thus making it very effective for food packaging, non-food packaging, and automotive.

LLDPE is a highly versatile plastic. Its versatility is further increased by its ability to withstand temperature changes, making it ideal for a variety of uses. Metallocene LLDPE is often used to package food and beverages. These materials are also widely used for medical packaging. Their properties range from being soft and transparent to being super strong and clear. LLDPE is widely used for film applications. Its high strength, flexibility, and impact resistance makes it ideal for various packaging applications.

Metallocene LLDPE is an extremely lightweight plastic widely used in the creation of plastic bottles, caps, and labels, among others. Metallocene have been used as chemical intermediates, antiknock additives to gasoline, lubricants, and for other uses, but it is widely used as catalysts in the plastics industry. Metallocene linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is used in films and packaging due to its flexibility and toughness. Whereas, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is typically translucent and less flexible than LDPE.

Metallocene LLDPE is highly elastic and flexible, and thus, it is widely used to manufacture flexible packaging, extrusion coated lamination, and rotational molding for industrial and food applications. Metallocene LLDPE offer improved mechanical strength, high tensile strength, greater stiffness, and increased optical properties. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for metallocene LLDPE. For example, in December 2021, SABIC and ExxonMobil added 1.3 Mn Metric Tons of LLDPE and mLLDPE to the existing production capacity in U.S.

Moreover, the automotive industry is recovering faster and the demand for metallocene LLDPE is also expected to increase in the forthcoming future.
