Start-stop Battery; Helps Reduce the Vehicle’s Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emissions

Start-stop Battery

Start-stop battery, or start-stop system, is designed to provide the starting power as a traditional automotive battery with the cyclic capacity. Start-stop systems require a battery with modern technology, because normal starter batteries are not designed to meet the higher demands of today’s modern vehicles. Normal batteries supply electrical currents to the starter motor, which enables it to start, while, the stop-start battery charge/discharge and recharge several times. The start-stop battery or system automatically shuts down and start the engine to reduce idle time, which in turn helps to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Moreover, the system ensures continuous power for all other functionalities during the start-stop process.

The cells used in these batteries are manufactured using a combination of electrolytes and metal salts. Electrolysis is a process that uses electricity to remove the metal ions from the electrolyte solution. An electric current is passed through the cells which discharge the metal ions and creates a current. One reason why most batteries fail is because the metal ions are dislodged when the driver apply pressure to or pull the accelerator pedals. This causes the metal plate of the battery to break and shorts out. The starter motor then fails to engage. Start-stop Battery is used to provide sufficient starting power for emergency use. They help extend the car battery life, as well as extend the engine's life too.

This is especially beneficial for vehicles running on gasoline. A start-stop battery can allow for continuous operation while maintaining a constant battery voltage. This is beneficial because these batteries can help reduce the harmful effects caused by internal pollution in various kinds of vehicles. Moreover, start-stop battery help maintain the operational temperature of a vehicle. This is particularly useful in extreme climate conditions; start-stop batteries allows a vehicle's engine to function even in very cold weather conditions. The benefits of its application were quickly recognized by automakers, and today, it is being used in all types of vehicles. Thus, there is an increasing demand for start-stop batteries in the automotive industry.

Stop-start is a system on most modern cars that cuts the engine when the car is stationary in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Moreover, the system helps reduce the CO2 emissions to meet government standards of emissions. Therefore, the integration of start-stop battery in various automobiles is increasing with a rapid pace, worldwide.
