Blockchain is becoming increasingly popular with typical applications in cryptocurrencies across the globe

Blockchain

The backbone of the Blockchain network is called the ledger. The ledger has two major parts namely a public ledger and a private ledger. The public ledger is accessible to all computers and can be accessed by anyone over the internet. The private ledger is only accessible by specific computers that are part of the decentralized network. The main reason why the blockchain is so different and appealing compared to traditional systems is that it relies on a completely decentralized approach to security. The ledger is considered a public entity, therefore no one can access it or control it. Every transaction that occurs is recorded and processed within the network, meaning that no one can hack into the ledger in order to commit fraud or make unauthorized transactions.

Basically, nodes are connected together in what is referred to as a "chain". A particular node is chosen by a user and every transaction that is performed will be linked back to that specific node. Transactions are secured by a form of digital proof called a "cryptographic hash". One of the biggest advantages of using Blockchains is that it removes the need for a middleman, such as a financial planner or lawyer. Instead of needing to make a transaction to another party, individuals can complete all transactions by themselves. This means that they can spend less on everyday transactions, allowing them to save more money than they normally would.

Another advantage to using this technology is that one can work with multiple chains at once. Since transactions are secure on different blocks, individuals are able to open multiple accounts and spend their money from them simultaneously. Some people believe that this ability is an invitation to crime since there are large fees to transfer money between accounts. The biggest disadvantage of using Cryptocurrency as a payment system is its reliance on computers. Although computers play a huge role in the success of Cryptocurrencies, the speed of computers cannot compete with the human mind. Recently, in August 2021, PayPal launched its cryptocurrency service in the U.K.
