Apart from their medical applications, Bioresorbable Polymers are also used in minimizing the amount of waste in packaging materials

Bioresorbable Polymers in general have a wide range of uses, but none is as varied and interesting as the area of pharmaceuticals. These versatile materials can be found in everything from plastics to synthetic rubbers, and in a huge variety of sizes and chemical makeup. In the area of pharmaceuticals, however, these polymers can be used in many different ways to produce medicines and other pharmaceutical products. For instance, in August 2021, Benvic Europe acquired the U.S.-based polymer maker, Chemres, to venture into the U.S. medical sector and develop innovative clinical solutions.

A Bioresorbable Polymers is naturally biocompatible; however, it undergoes a type of biodegradation. This enables for pharmaceutical applications in which the material is meant to be absorbable and metabolized by the human body. Many a time these polymer materials will pass through the stomach and kidneys without being broken down, but other times, such as with physical absorption medications such as those for high blood pressure, cholesterol and asthma, there will be a certain level of degradation. A wide range of chemical properties and physical properties permits these bioresorbable polymers to be utilized for numerous applications which include physical as well as biological solutions.

All life on Earth is based on life forms that are produced by other living things. Bioresorbable Polymers have the ability to mimic biological structures of this nature in order to create pharmaceuticals. Biotech industries have found some particularly interesting uses for these bioresorbable polymers, especially in the areas of veterinary care, nutrition, and the natural defense of animals against disease. Biomaterials made from these types of conduits are often used as cellular connectors and also in the fields of tissue engineering and genetic engineering. As with all of the advances in technology, these synthetic and bio-active materials are still being perfected, and many challenges still exist before they can even be applied to real-world situations. Also, bioresorbable polymers do not attract any form of biological or chemical contamination, and hence they serve as an excellent vehicle in which to transport important pharmaceuticals.
