Orlistat, a newly approved dietary supplement that acts as an intestinal lipase inhibitor, is proving effective for weight loss in patients with obesity and diabetes. Orlistat helps to break down the fats in the stomach so that they can be absorbed into the bloodstream. Orlistat also acts as a mild insulin secretor and an oral hypoglycemic. The lipase inhibitors are clinically proven to have significant effects in helping to reduce both blood cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels.

One of the advantages of Orlistat is that it provides significant dietary fiber and protein, which are needed in order for the digestive system to properly digest and absorb the fat-soluble ingredients of foods. Many dietary supplements and fat-soluble vitamins are considering to be "fiber-rich", as they contain a large number of carbohydrates.
