Linerless Labels; a New Technology That Is Witnessing a Rise in Relevancy and Usage

Linerless Labels

Linerless Labels are new, pressure-sensitive labels that do not have a release liner like traditional labels. These labels are produced through advanced digital printing technologies. Linerless labels are wound on a roll with a release coating applied to the front of the facestock, which helps prevent the adhesive, applied to the underside of the facestock, from sticking to the label below it on the roll. Such labels are widely used to protect packaged materials from moisture, air, and contamination from external sources.

Linerless Labels are made with a special release coating applied to the face of the label which allows the label to be wound on the roll without sticking to the label below it. They offer many advantages over standard labels, such as less downtime in label production, less storage space and transportation cost, less waste disposal that can help reduce carbon emissions, and zero liner wastage that leads to more labels per roll. Thus, these labels are widely used in the food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries.

Linerless Labels are used on packaged food products and medicines. In addition to packaging waste, linerless labels applied to food-safe skinpacks prevent food spoilage. In February 2021, BIXOLON America launched SRP-S320 to its SRP-S300 3-inch linerless printer Series. Built to last for permanent linerless label printing, ideal for use with electronic scales in Retail environments, the new printer offers an additional high media roll capacity of up to 120 mm outside diameter. With the increasing demand for packaged and convenience food products worldwide, the demand for linerless labels is also increasing with a rapid pace.

This technology will give businesses and companies the ability to produce labels of much higher quality than their conventional counterparts. Moreover, with the rapid growth of the packaging industry, the demand for linerless labels is also expected to increase, worldwide.
