MENA Halal Food

Halal Food is a term applied to certain kinds of food which can be consumed by Muslims without harming their religion or other people. Halal means "lawful" or "legal" in Arabic. MENA halal food is widely available and widely accepted throughout the Muslim world as part of their religious duty. For instance, in November 2020, the Arabic halal food provider, Baladna, opened several grocery stores across Germany to cater to the growing demand for halal food products amidst rising number of Afghan refugees in the country. Islamic law requires that Muslims follow the dietary rules contained in the Quran and the Sunnah. Any action by a Muslim not allowed by these rules is considered to be haram or forbidden. The term "halal" is therefore related to religion, not to cuisine.

Halal Food for Muslims is defined as food that is permissible according to the rules of Islamic law. In Arabic, halal food is usually referred to as khuraaj (lawful) or halwa (prohibited). In the Quran and Sunnah, the term halal is in contrast to haram, which is forbidden by most of the religious schools of Islam. The term used to describe food that is permitted by all three religious schools is "halal". But in Arabic, the term "halal" means "lawful" or "legal" and "Arabic" means "of the sacred". So in Arabic, halal means "lawful" and "Arabic" means "of the sacred".
