Axial Piston Motors

 

Axial Piston Motor usually has one or more cylinders arranged in a ring-like array inside a cylinder block with a rotor on each side. A rotary shaft glides along the inner walls of the cylinder block and piston assembly on a path that leads to the outside of the block. The action of the piston and the shaft cause energy to be stored in the piston and the housing and is used to power a device that is designed to move materials (such as gears or bearing housings). This energy is then released when the force of the spring exerts pressure on the piston or housing causing it to rotate and move.

In an Axial Piston Motor, rotary motion can be generated by rotation, and the energy stored can be used to drive an electric motor. An axial piston pump typically has one or two rotary shafts, and most commonly three. The interior of the cylinder block may contain rollers or other materials that help increase rotational speed, but are otherwise unimportant.

A normal axial piston pump assembly consists of a housing, usually made from brass or steel, an outer tube housing, and at least one piston. Typically, one or more axial pistons are contained in a housing that is made from ceramic, metal, or other material. Common materials that are used to build this type of assembly include bronze, copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel. Additionally, these assemblies can also be made from plastic, carbon fiber, nylon, polycarbonate, or other materials that can be built into a specific shape.
